Handles traffic violation citations, some local municipal ordinances, infractions, and minor misdemeanor Individuals who receive a traffic citation are mailed a notice at least 2 weeks before the court appearance date (the "promise to appear" date is also on the citation). The notice provides information about how to settle the case (pay the traffic violation fine) by mail and about how to appear in court. The notice also provides information about eligibility to attend traffic school and have the ticket dismissed. Individuals who decide to or are required to appear in court must check in at a court session on or before the appearance date indicated on the citation. Individuals who receive a citation must appear at a court session or settle the case by mail by the appearance date; whether or not a notice is received.
